Colonia is oversold as a place to spend time and chill out.
Colonia is oversold as a place to spend time and chill out. One day is enough to see the main sights. Uruguay is expensive and Colonia, for all its charm, feels like a tourist trap. Twice, we ate at establishments that had boldly signed food specials that somehow didn’t apply to us, even after checking with the server.

For me, Colonia is a one-night stay, or two nights maximum, if you are staying in a nice hotel with amenities or if you are planning on visiting a winery or taking a day trip from Colonia. The historical center is the only thing worth visiting, and you can probably walk it all in a day. It is VERY picturesque, the ultimate instagrammable old town, and has many good restaurants.

Beautiful outdoor pool in atractive and well-cared for garden. Very Very Very good outdoor pool in beautiful and well cared-for garden. Very good indoor pool.
Staff were helpful and ready to offer solutiions if needed. Friendly ambiance.
Rooms in the tower are spacious and confortable. Good sized bathroom, although being elderly we missed security bars in the bathtub.
Nice breakfast especially for sweet tooths. Food was very good at the restaurant but not cheap. It was disappointing the lack of flexibilitty to have food and refreshmente at tea time and no availabilitt of the nice pastries at mid afternoon.
Very relaxing and lovely place for a longer stay.

Well worth the trip!
Well worth the trip! The history and the architecture is beautiful, and there is always much to see. Everything is in walkable distance, so we covered much in 3 days. Please do consider bringing dog treats/food for the friendly stray dogs. They need some love and care too.

The room was small but adequate, thought the twin beds were of minimum width, perhaps 3 feet, and were up against the walls, which made them tight for me. The bathrooms was quite nice, and the breakfast was good, typical of breakfasts offered at hotels in Argentina. The staff was excellent, and a shout out to Juliana and Sophia who helped us with directions and recommendations as well as exceptional hospitality.
There were building works going on near the room we had booked so the hotel gave us a free upgrade! The room was beautiful. The staff were super helpful and friendly. They brought us breakfast in our room because the works effected the communal breakfast area. The breakfast was amazing! Lots of variety and plenty of it. Loved our stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.
Nice quiet location that allows you to walk into the town and through the park at the side of the river. Secure parking. Swimming pool. Very comfortable bed and a nice breakfast. Dinner in the open plan restaurant with a reception area with an open fire. Bonus of a family of Toros (national bird of Uruguay) poking around the lawn in the morning for a bit of bird watching!
Charming hotel in the style of the traditional Iberian houses. The rooms surround a beautiful outdoor courtyard with an inviting pool and tables on the terraces. The location is very good; walkable to the Historic Barrio, shops, restaurants and "cambios" where one may exchange currencies.
Large hotel on the edge of the historical area. About 5 to 10 minute walk to port one way and historical area the other. Simple clean room with air conditioning n small bathroom. Lovely pool area and not too busy
Awesome hotel with very typical colonial architecture. The room was comfortable and the location fantastic right at the historic town. Mariele is lovely and I would definitely recommend this place.
The location was good as it is within a block of the old town. The hotel is bigger than I expected and has been added on to over the years. I was in the newer section which had its idiosyncrasies.
A heaven of peace, really friendly staff, very well located to explore the picturesque city of Colonia del Sacramento. Tea and refreshments are constantly available in the lobby.
Beautiful hotel in the middle of the historic center of Colonia, the breakfast was superb and the food in the restaurant also great. Staff was super kind and a highlight.
Quant hotel in the oldest part of town with well maintained facilities. Breakfast was great with better views of the river. Court yard is old fashion but feel homey.
Charming and cozy. Slept like a baby! The staff is wonderful and the location perfect. Didnt spent too long in the hotel, but the time i was there was great/
