I love the location and the general feel of the property. It's very clean, the staff are pleasant and the included breakfast is a definite bonus. The ensuite shower room was spacious, spotless and even has a bidet. I didn't expect that!
Given my age, I'm always happy to discover there's a lift. I love the fact that one can still open windows here. Other providers please take note...

Spotlessly clean in the bedroom & bathroom. Very comfortable, with everything you could want or need during my one night stay. Would be good for a longer stay too, with plenty of room for hanging clothes & bedside tables have drawers. Lovely shower & decent-sized cubicle! Fan provided for use in hot weather. Very easy access with outside door & room on coded locks, particularly as I was arriving late. Code arrived by email exactly when it said it would! No problem about not having reception staff.

An important harbour for centuries, Portsmouth counts with one of the busiest ferry piers in the United Kingdom, has the oldest dry dock still in use in the world. Its Historic Dockyard is home to famous British ships like Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and the HMS Warrior.
In the picturesque Old Town you’ll find typical English pubs, coloured houses, and small independent shops. It also has a Fish Market provided by the city’s small fishing fleet. In Old Portsmouth is possible to find smaller hotels, B&B’s and guest houses, some of them not far from the ferry harbour.
The Gunwharf Quays are a modernly renovated shopping area, home to the Spinnaker Tower, while the centre has an ever-growing number of shops. Don’t miss Commercial Road and the Cascades Shopping Centre. Hotels in Portsmouth’s city centre allow you to be close to everything what the city has to offer.
For relaxing moments, Portsdown Hill allows panoramic views over the city and the Isle of Wight. During summer, its sandy beaches are a must.

We only stayed in the dock land area so did not see anything else of Portsmouth, but could have spent much more time here anyway! The historic dockyard with Warrior, Victory, Mary Rose and so much more is a simply superb experience. The Gunwharf Quays is now a shopping and restaurant haven. We ate at the Cozy Club which had excellent food and views across the harbor. We also walked around to the historic Round Tower/Square Tower area which has been restored. The very, very best place to go is the Still and West pub & restaurant on the point there. Amazing food, atmosphere, and ships constantly passing the windows. I would live in this pub! Everything we went to was walking distance, and the train and bus station was opposite our hotel should we have wanted to travel further afield.

My reason for going to Portsmouth was then Dockyard and Naval Museums, easily taking all of my few days exploring. HMS Warrior, HMS Victory, the Submarine visit, the many museums, the bay trip, the only downside was the long lines of people for all these magnificent examples of Britain's former naval power and the opportunity to clamber aboard and around. The whole dockyard area just reeks of history packed into every square foot both on-shore and in the bay.
A fabulous local bus network, superb shopping and many other museums. Along with it's share of pubs and restaurants for all pockets it was difficult to fit as much in as I did in just four days.
The only thing that I would want to avoid the next time is the rain.
The long line of to enter the docks, 45 minutes or an hour or more without any cover does mean you can get washed out if you haven't wrapped up warm and dry.

This city, historical home of Britain's Naval Base houses treasures you can't see anywhere else. HMS Victory, the ship Admiral Nelson died in battle is a sight to behold. Excellent audio helps with the tour. The HMS Mary Rose, the 14th century ship on display in an interpretive centre is fascinating. HMS Warrior, the biggest iron hulled warship in the world and other ships available for touring. Boat tours of the harbour or a ferry via the famous hovercraft to Isle of Wight. The D-Day Interpretive Centre and the last remaining craft that landed on the beaches of Normandy there to walk through. A coastal walk that is breathtaking. So, so much to discover and enjoy. We have to go back.

If you like history Portsmouth is great.
If you like history Portsmouth is great. We did not know about the hovercraft that went to the Isle of Wright which I wish we could of done. Spent only about 3/4 of a day at the Naval museum. Could easily spent 2 days.
Was so pleasantly surprised by this hotel. All of the staff were absolutely lovely and very helpful. The room was very nice, the bathroom super clean (with great shower pressure, a spacious tub, and VERY good hand soap). The bed was extremely comfy — unusual for all of the pillows to be as comfortable as this hotel. The decor of the entire place was very fun, properly themed. I had a good look at all the model boats. The breakfast was pretty standard, very edible. Spectacular location for Portsmouth Harbour attractions & Gunwharf Quays.
The room is enough space for 2 people. The bathroom is tiny but good. It has a small window which can open for fresh air and ventilation. The location is great, I can walk to Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, Museum and Arts Gallery, and clarence pier Portsmouth. I booked it for 1 night. Actually, you could book for 2 nights and it would be better for travelling and explore more things. I got a car and there is secure parking in the hotel, £10 per 24 hours/day. Recommend it. I would come back again.
It was the closest hotel to where our son is now living in Portsmouth (we live in Northamptonshire). The 20%off all food made the entire visit much cheaper than usual. We requested a bath and we had one. The food was delightful and plentiful. Staff were very attentive to all our questions/ needs. Offer of more towels was nice even though we hadn’t used all of our original ones yet.
Location on arrival looked a bit busy and we thought it would be noisy. Wrong. You could hear no noise from the busy road outside or from the pub. Room was comfortable. We didn't book breakfast but could have had it. Our friends did. It looked fabulous and was great value for money. We've actually booked again for another stay when sailing from Portsmouth.
modern, clean, comfortable and a great breakfast. we only arrived at about 18.30 after flying back to England then a coach journey back to Portsmouth to get our car so I booked the hotel rather than a 6 hour drive after traveling all day, it was a short visit but we would definitely stay here if we come to Portsmouth again.
A nice hotel in a quiet location easily reached by local busses. It's a long way but you can walk it from Portsmouth Harbour. If so make sure you go via the magnificent Gunwharf Quays and coastline.
Steve was very helpful and welcoming.
A nice clean comfy bed. Good value for money.
My recent stay at Holiday Inn was phenomenal. The location, cleanliness, and staff, especially Lynsey, were all exceptional. Lynsey's professionalism and helpfulness made our experience truly memorable. I highly recommend Holiday Inn for anyone seeking a top-notch hotel experience.
Perfect location for our one night stay in Portsmouth. We walked home quickly after a day of shopping at Gunwharf quays and then took the catamaran to isle of wight the next day from Portsmouth Harbour. The apartment was large and comfy. We used the kitchen for dinner.
Almost every aspect of the hotel is outstanding - position on the seafront, elegance of the building, comfort of the rooms, excellence of the restaurant, courtesy and friendliness of the staff. But there is just one exception.
Excellent location for Gunwharf Quays, dockyard & waterfront. Hotel has on-site parking. Was comfortable and clean. Breakfast the following morning was great - good choice and plenty available. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Super cozy, clean and homely. I traveled down to Portsmouth with my two little children as third daddy is in the Royal Navy so we came for his return home from a deployment, this property couldn’t of been more perfect for us.
The breakfast was well enjoyed especially surprised there was a cooked selection.
Good location nice walk to seafront approx 1/2 hour and trains into city centre and portsmouth harbour very convenient from fratton Station
An excellent location, at Gunwharf Quays and near to Portsmouth Harbour station and the Historic Dockyard. A great welcome from Barry, a very comfortable and practical flat, and an amazing view from the ninth floor.
Hotel is in a perfect location for Gunwharf Quays & the harbour, our room was at the front of the property so had a lovely view over the sea & the Historic Dockyard. Friendly staff & a good breakfast.
very good hotel, good location, the price including breakfast is very good. The food is also good, the staff is very friendly, parking is free. I don't think we need more. Everything is excellent
Holiday Inn Express Portsmouth - Gunwharf Quays is the perfect location for visiting the Historic Dockyard. There are lots of restaurants nearby and the hotel provides discount vouchers for them.
Comfortable bed and design typical of Ibis hotels which represent good value for money. Reasonably priced on site car parking for city centre location with bar and restaurant facilities.
The location and the facilities provided by hotel are great. Room size is larger than normal hotel’s room. Beds are comfortable, TV size is big and fits with the room size.
