This was the perfect choice for my layover, amazing value for money, early breakfast time (starting 5:30) which is amazing for travelers. I was worried before arriving if I would be able to find the shuttle bus, but it was so easy and convenient. The staff at the hotel are very friendly, basic English skills, but you can feel how heartfelt their efforts are. Even got a welcome drink and the room was so comfortable and the view stunning.

FAQs about hotels in Shanghai

A Beacon of Modern China

A beacon of 21st-century China, Shanghai is modernising at an electrifying rate. Nowhere is this more evident than the skyscraper-punctuated Pudong commercial district. The most distinct - the Oriental Pearl Tower - has a ball at the top and bottom and offers fabulous city views. A number of towers also twist as they go up – a feat of contemporary engineering.

This side of the city also houses Shanghai Pudong International Airport, while Shanghai Hongqiao Airport is over the Huangpu River in the Puxi district. An area of older and less dominating buildings, Puxi features the elegant Bund area whose varied architecture includes a surprising array of Art Deco.

With a choice of shopping centres and small shops beneath brightly lit neon signs just like Chinatowns across the world, Shanghai shopping is fantastic.

Other must-see Shanghai attractions include the wonderful Shanghai Museum and the Jade Buddha Temple. For a break from the hustle and bustle head to the Yuyuan Gardens, the beach or peaceful Zhujiajiao Water Town in the west.

Whether you choose one of the Shanghai hotels, apartments or hostels, take time to go to a tea house, a Chinese institution. Also worth sampling are Shanghai hairy crab, steamed dumplings and the freshwater fish so popular with locals.

Perfect introduction to first time traveller to China.

Perfect introduction to first time traveller to China. Transport into Shanghai from Airport Catch Maglev fast train and/or Metro from the airport. Signage clear and buying a ticket very easy with Alipay which you can preload before arrival in China (in NZ anyway). Always a person to help near where tickets are bought. BUT beware Maglev around 9:30 and metro 11pm, then only bus or taxi and bus difficult to workout without language. Stay near the Bund - perfect spot for people watching on the weekend. Walking around Shanghai safe and fascinating, metro very easy to navigate and although language a challenge everyone very helpful and good humoured. Nanjing Road amazing, especially at night, even for someone who doesn't like shopping! Plenty of places to eat and all prices but found street food by far the best. Thought it might be touristy (and it was) but Zhujiajiao water town worth the trip. Easy to get to by train for an afternoon. You can find a quiet spot to sit and sip tea on a balcony over the river.

It is a unique city, and Bund area is excellent. Unusual buildings to visit and see. I felt very safe there. If you want clothes made go to the South Bund Fabric Market, 3991 Lujiabang Road, 1F 198#....try mobile number 13917936395 ......she was terrific and made and delivered my clothes on time. Well made and a wide range of fabrics. The fabric market is a large place with heaps of fabrics and clothes can be made in a day or two. Lots of tailors on hand to check out. Bargain hard.

With only a short time in Shanghai, this hotel was perfect for getting to/from Pudong on the superfast Maglev, as well as being able to get metro line 2 direct into Nanjing Road, the Bund, Yuyan Garden. Staff are friendly but yes very, very little English, all comms are by translation app. The room was huge! With comfy bed with quality linens, and walk-in shower with big fluffy towels. There were coffee, tea and sugar sachets in the room, but no milk/whitener. Complimentary bottles of water for the stay.

Located in an area with lots of food and other stores within very short walk. Found Starbucks 3 doors away from the hotel entrance. Also a nice little bar with a narrow outside terrace on floor 3. Rooftop terrace is very good. Can see Shanghai Tower and other big financial district buildings from it. 10 minute walk to The Bund and waterfront and a further 1.2 kilometers along The Bund to the tourist tunnel under the river to the Pudong side. Walk back with the beautifully lit Bund was well worth doing.

I chose the hotel for its location near the airport. In theory you can take the subway and get the airport in half an hour or so. In my case I ended up taking a Didi as I was tired and did not want to miss my flight. In the end I made the flight with not a moment to spare. Otherwise the hotel is pretty far from the downtown areas of Pudong and Puxi so I would not recommend it unless you have to catch a flight. For the price and quality of the room it serves this purpose.

Relatively close to the airport. Free transfer to the airport from the hotel, even in the early morning. They prepare a small breakfast to go (milk, boiled egg, some bakery), that was really nice. Staff super friendly, quite room, large and comfy bed. Good choice for a short stop over in Shanghai. Small shop at the hotel, possible to buy some basic stuff, drinks, cup noodles, shampoos etc. But otherwise there's nothing around the hotel, no shops, not cafes.

Fantástic rooms, breakfast buffet is excellent. Location close to the New Expo Center. (one stop away line 7 $3Yuan) or $18 Yuan for a 5” taxi ride. Next to a Longyang subway station. It connects many lines including number 2 that comes from Pudóng airport. Take Exit 13 cross the street and you will be at the hotel. Be aware that Shanghai has several of this brand of hotels.

This hotel is located in the best part of Shanghai (as someone who previously worked in Shanghai for several years) — walking distance to both the Jing'an and Xuhui districts. There are many hotels in the area but this is one of the best value. Hotel was very accommodating to my request for a quiet room on a higher floor. Front desk, concierge, and cleaning staff all kind and helpful.

The theme of the hotel is movies as it's attached to a cinema and hosting some film festival since more than 20 years. That has a nice vibe to it. The hotel is rather in good shape and for 2 people actually a good choice. There's plenty of restaurants just around the corner and best part is that you can easily walk right into the french concession area which is a must-see in Shanghai

Very comfortable beds. Clean. Shuttle bus to and fork airport. Good breakfast. Ideal stopover hotel for my one day in Shanghai. Close to airport. Helpful staff.
