Rivera has a number of duty free shops, and the novelty of having an open border with Brazil, so that you can wander from one country to another simply by crossing a street. Having said that there is not much else to do and the novellty wears off quickly. You do need to go to immigration if you travel outside of tbe twin cities - a joint facility at the back of a shopping centre - they have to ask you which way you are going! The duty free shop prices are actually higher than the prices you will find at regular supermarkets in the US and Europe. The best parrilla in town is La Perdiz, in the Shopping Mall Sineriz. The ones downtown are actually mediocre.
